NATURE OF WORK:

Work is performed under the immediate supervision of the Fitness Coordinator. Work involves customization of instruction of exercise routines fitness programs to our members while motivating, educating and guiding them in their cardiovascular exercise, resistance training, and attaining a healthier lifestyle. The personal trainer is a fitness professional possessing the knowledge, skills and abilities for safe and effective exercise and fitness program design, instruction and assistance for the purpose of reaching personal health and fitness goals. Work is reviewed for conformance to generally accepted standards of fitness center operations, and for compliance with the established policies of the City of Marion and The HUB Recreation Center.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Maintains personal health and fitness and wellness integrity
  2. Provides excellent customer service
  3. Educates students on principles of exercise and physical fitness
  4. Effectively explains and demonstrates exercise technique and provides feedback on client exercise performance
  5. Designs safe and effective exercise routines according to the needs of the individual
  6. Prepares and conducts training sessions, and as appropriate, returns equipment to storage areas
  7. Punctual and prepared for all appointments with clients or staff meetings
  8. Answers student questions, and communicates with them in a positive and encouraging manner
  9. Professionally represents physical fitness and healthful lifestyle
  10. Passionate about fitness and coaching others with purpose while providing excellent customer service
  11. Motivates others to improve their overall fitness and health
  12. Demonstrates the desire to help clients reach their health and fitness goals through proper cardiovascular, flexibility and resistance exercise
  13. Conducts Fitness Assessments as appropriate and according to HUB protocol
  14. Educates members on current health and fitness issues and trends
  15. Maintains session records for every class session according to system and procedures required
  16. Attends staff meetings and training sessions to enhance communication and job performance
  17. Upholds HUB procedures and policies
  18. Promotes and educates members on personal training programs and services
  19. Remains current on certifications and new trends in the industry
  20. Informs supervisor of opportunities for program development, improvement and problems as they arise

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Personal training experience (may train and mentor newly certified and educated trainers)
  • Nationally recognized personal trainer certification including, but not limited to ACSM, ACE, NASM, SCW
  • CPR-AED certified prior to start of instruction

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of human anatomy, kinesiology, and body mechanics specific to physical activity
  • Knowledge of teaching strategies and awareness of individual student need
  • Knowledge of fitness environment and HUB fitness center procedures
  • Knowledge of first aid principles and practices
  • Ability to communicate effectively in interpreting policies and procedures
  • Good communications skills

COMPENSATION: 

Part-Time Non-Exempt (Non IMRF-under 1,000 hours annually) at a Rate of $30 per Hour
